Jesus Christ and Santa Claus Smackdown

In a recent Blog Post: “Are you with me?” I mentioned a comparison between Jesus Christ and Santa Claus.

Not sure if I was fishin’ for controversy.  Not sure if I found it.  But, it did elicit comment, and thus, further contemplation on my part.

To wit…

One icon is inspired by materialism; the other by salvation. I would argue that both are symbols of hope and good will.

Perhaps a key word(s) that is fundamentally salient here is inspire or inspiration.

I don’t think you can go wrong by living your “life like Christ (loads of room for interpretation here)” – even if you are not a Christian.  And, generally speaking, most of us experience a sense of cheer and ambivalence during the Christmas Holidays – and, the symbol is Santa Claus; and, the acts are accordingly based on (again) good will towards men.

Santa keeps a list to confirm who is naughty or nice.  And, God just might hold a grudge.  However, you can apparently get a lot of grace from both by apologizing and doing your best.

In the end, being inspired by both, or either, makes you part of the light where others will be drawn to you – as opposed to the dark where you absorb the negative from others. 

Can it be as simple as being a “giver” as opposed to being a “taker”?

So, here I am a “Love Kat”.  I give freely of myself (just not for free). And, I suspect that it’s men that appreciate what Christ did for us that most value what Santa Clause brings to us.

It comes down to giving and receiving.  And, the Spirit in which we do both.

Regardless of all that; and, possibly because of it; today, I am listening to: “Clint Eastwood” by Gorillaz.
